Doc Celliars is a non-human character from my first novel 'The Equal', written when I was 19-20. She's an eccentric warrior who horses around chattering like an idiot when she's not calling people out for their stupidity. She enjoys getting on people's nerves, especially her enemies, the Odinns, the cyborgs in the background. Nobody knows what she is because most people don't dare ask her anything because, well, she talks rings around them. Which is the whole point.

In the late eighties, I was fed up with female characters who were either innocents, seductresses, or warriors in skimpy clothing. Sigourney's character in 'Alien' and Hamilton's character in the 'Terminator' were refreshing changes, but they were too grim. I was reading a lot of adventure and a smattering of science-fiction and fantasy, and men did most of the adventure stuff, while women did the relationaship stuff.

Dec '93, A4, Derwent colour copy of B&W original. I like how this turned out despite the mistakes.

The reference was a male character from an excellent martial-arts children's series, the author I can't recall. Changing the male form into female was a nightmare. The Odinns I made up, the ships are from somewhere else, some of the buildings, too.

Added a dash of red from the photo edit thingy.

Enough blabbing. Enjoy.
